Well, i've been in California for 2 full days now after spending the engagement weekend out in missouri with my new fiance. I think its fair enough to say that i should at least start out with telling you all the story of how it. happened. You know, starting with the beginning.
Nat and I have been dating for a year. maybe i'll save the whole dating story for another time. It's sweet I promise you.
Anyway, I graduated last may, and accepted a job out here in the sunny Southern California. I moved out in June after spending my last couple of days of the summer with my girlfriend out at her family's house in Virginia. And let me tell you summer sucked without her. Two full months of nothing more than texts and phone calls. Hey, dont get me wrong its better texting and calling than living in the 1930's and hoping a letter would come in once a month from your honey in Europe fighting the war. But seriously, it wasn't very much fun. I spent that time planning to propose after a flight to missouri. So, i hopped on a plane a day early and told her that i was in a board of directors conference with no service up in the san gregornio mountain range. She believed it and i boarded my flight.
After traveling almost 1700 miles, sitting next to an international beauty pageant girl named Clara (she was cool), and effeciently stealing Nat's car; i was ready. The plan was as follows:
Nat's roommate was to convice her that her great aunt sent her a gift card to olive Garden and take pictures of her and her roommate. Nat believed that too. So i got all dressed up and ready, nat and her roommate headed to the OG :) and sat down. As her roommate coincidentally had to go to the bathroom, i walked up and tapped her on the shoulder. I said, "is this seat taken?" She of course jumped up and hugged me. I sort of pushed her away a little bit and told her i had a question. She looked a little puzzled and asked what. I got down on my knee and said, "will you marry me?" She didnt expect it at all! It was perfect. Like when you watch the lifetime channel and ooohh and awwww because you want a perfect engagement like theirs. Thats exactly how this one was; except it was real life. :)
That weekend, of course, went by way to fast and i found myself on a plane early monday evening. After our goodbyes i reluctantly got on a plane to fly back to california. Coincidentally, i sat next to Randy Couture of the UFC. He was a nice guy, but i would have happily traded him for my new fiance to come home with me. So there you have it, the beginning of my engaged seperation...
